On Friday, August 24th, Hurricane Harvey slammed southeast Texas, around the Corpus Christi, Port Aransas, and Houston areas, causing widespread devastation and damage, and ultimately leading to approximately 70 deaths.
Estimates of the damage place costs at around 180 billion dollars.
Homes, businesses, and entire lives were uprooted and decimated by this storm, and the cost and time it will take to truly rebuild is immeasurable.
And that was before Irma.
Hurricane Irma hit Florida and a number of islands in the Caribbean in the week following Harvey, followed closely by Hurricane Maria, which has devastated Puerto Rico and other islands, in ways that may take years to fully recover from.
In the wake of these disasters, the kindness and generosity of strangers has been apparent and overwhelming. News footage has shown everyday people piloting boats through flooded streets to help stranded victims escape the massive flooding. Celebrities and prominent figures have spearheaded initiatives to help raise money and provide relief to the areas hardest hit.
Our hearts break for the people of Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean islands, and we are inspired by spirit of the people who have risen to the occasion.
That’s why we have begun raising money for the relief effort in all of these places, and we want you to join us in that effort.
